Mary L. Meek

September 16, 1925 — January 24, 2020

Mary Lee Meek peacefully passed into eternity Friday, January 24, 2020, surrounded by her children at Bickford of Overland Park, Kansas.

Mary was born September 16, 1925 in Grundy County, Missouri to Jessie and Orville Carpenter. She graduated from Galt High School in Galt, Missouri where she played basketball with the girl’s team that placed in state competition.

She was married to William Beverly Fields until his death in 1960. In 1970 she married Robert Leroy Meek in a union that lasted until his death in 2000.

For most of her professional career she served as an executive secretary for various organizations, retiring from Country Club Bank .

She was preceded in death by her sisters Edith Webster, Cecil Hutton, Lorraine Tippie, Marjorie Carpenter and brother Russell Eugene Carpenter. She was also preceded by a son, Jerry Eugene Fields and a stepdaughter, Mary Jane Meek.

Surviving children and spouses include Jan Wayne (Rochelle) Fields, Jimmy Lee (Joyce) Fields, and Joyce Kay Wilbanks.

Mary will also be missed by grandchildren: Scott (Alicia) Clay, Benton (Hillary) Boyd, Jesse (Christy) Fields, Jason (Kim) Boyd, Shannon (Sayda) Fields, Heather (Guy) Fields-Playfer Travis Fields, Patrick (Natalie) Fields, and Christian (Sarah) Fields.

She also leaves thirteen great-grandchildren: Tarin Clay, Taylor (Lauren) Clay, Tyler Boyd, Ashton Boyd, Abby Boyd, Brady Boyd, Mikayla Boyd, Jesse Fields Jr., Jonathan Playfer, Olive Fields, Zachary Playfer, Noah Playfer, Elsie Feraday-Fields, Autumn Fields and one great-great granddaughter, Ella Clay.

After her retirement she enjoyed crocheting, reading and watching game shows on television.

Visitation will be from 1:30 – 2:30 PM at Park Lawn Funeral Home at 8251 Hillcrest Rd in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral will be held at 2:30.

Service Information:

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2020, at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel. Burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
