Cristina M. Mercedes-Williams

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Cristina M. Mercedes, 43, Kansas City, MO. Cristina was born on June 6, 1975 in Jamaica Queens, New York; daughter of, Digna Gonzalez and Pedro Mercedes. She attended IS74, Benjamin N. Cardozo High School and studied Criminal Justice at CUNY John Jay College, New York.

Cristina’s pride and joy came with the birth of her son, Aaron Micheal Mercedes and later when she married the love of her life, Nancy Mercedes-Williams. Cristina’s fierce love and passion for all of her family and especially Aaron and Nancy knew no bounds.

Cristina often referred to herself as a “spicy Latina” and was incredibly proud of her heritage. Cristina lit up any room she walked into and when her eyes found yours – you were the most important person in her world at that moment. She brought joy, life, passion and love to everything she did and every person she met. We were all blessed with her friendship, charmed by her personality and will be forever at a loss without her in our lives.

Cristina is preceded in death by her Nana, Angela Gonzalez. She leaves behind her wife, Nancy Mercedes-Williams; her sons Aaron Mercedes and Andrew Jones, her mother Digna Gonzalez, her father Pedro Mercedes and stepmother, Lazera Mercedes, her sisters Rossina Julve and Karina Lawrence, her brothers Pedro P. Mercedes, Peter Mercedes and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, countless friends in both New York and in Kansas City, coworkers and pool competitors. There will never be another like Cristina Mercedes and we’ll never forget her.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fountain Pond, Park Lawn Funeral Home-Memorial Park Cemetery. 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO, 64138. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather from 12:30-4:30 at Cristina’s favorite neighborhood hangout, the Sidestreet Bar located at 413 E. 33rd Street, Kansas City, MO.
