Donald R. Myers

June 26, 1942 — June 9, 2019

Donald R. Myers, Sr., 76, KCMO, passed away June 9, 2019.  He was born on June 26, 1942, in St. Joseph, MO, and was raised by Clem and Retta Black. Don had intended to make a career with the US Navy until a car accident left him partially paralyzed when he was only 20 years old. Many would have given up, but Don had an inner-strength and determination that carried him through the hard times in life. Although he was disabled, he worked for several years as a security guard for the City of Kansas City, while also holding down various jobs to support his family.

Deacon Don, as he was fondly known by many, was a member of Kansas City Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon until his health began to fail. He loved making phone calls and sharing the love of Jesus with those around him. He had a special knack for making others feel loved and appreciated.

Don is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Fae; son, Don Jr. and wife, Kim; daughter, Ann and husband, Darrell; grandchildren, Mike (Lynn), David (Georgia), Sarah, and Juliana; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Bill Myers, St. Joseph, MO; nieces, nephews and friends. Don loved being an American, and had a passion for Jesus and his family. His love, laughter, and smile will be forever missed.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm, followed by funeral services at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, June 13, at Kansas City Church, 7700 North Church Road, Kansas City, MO 64158. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:00 am Friday, June 14, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Gladstone. Memorials are suggested to the Kansas City Church Children's Ministries.
