After 22 years Alphonso retired from the United States Army and moved back to the Kansas City area to be closer to his daughter and family. While residing back home he secured employment with Social Security and later working for the Department of Homeland Security until his passing.

Alphonso accepted Christ at an early age attending Greater Solid Rock MBC under the pastorate of the Late Rev. A.L. Johnson and at the time of his death he was a member of Sheffield Family Life Center under the leadership of Pastor George Westlake III.

His hobbies included traveling, working on cars, riding motorcycles, watching and attending sporting events, spending time with family and friends and simply living his best life while making memories.
