Alphonso Keith Nelson

Alphonso Keith Nelson was born on December 16th, 1973 in Kansas City, Missouri to LaDell and Mary Nelson.

Alphonso departed this life on Tuesday October 22nd, 2019. He was preceded in death by both parents and his sister Judy Nelson.

Alphonso received his primary education in the Kansas City Public School District graduating from Central High School in May of 1992. During his teenage years Alphonso quickly found a love and passion in working on vehicles as a mechanic with his dad. This love of cars provided him with many years of employment at Jewels 66 Service Station located on the corner of Blue Parkway and Prospect.

Immediately after graduation Alphonso enlisted into the United States Army. Being in the Army afforded him the privilege to travel the world being stationed in places like Germany and South Korea. During his tenure he received many awards and accolades such as The Commanders Award of Excellence, The United States Army Recruiting Command Award for Excellence and the Engaged Leadership Award. He also received 6 rank promotions starting at Private and retiring as Sgt. Alphonso K. Nelson.

While serving his country he also had a passion for higher education. Alphonso obtained his Bachelors of Science from the Bellevue University in 2009. Soon after, he began working on his Master’s at Webster University earning his degree of Master of Arts for Business and Organizational Security Management in 2010.

After 22 years Alphonso retired from the United States Army and moved back to the Kansas City area to be closer to his daughter and family. While residing back home he secured employment with Social Security and later working for the Department of Homeland Security until his passing.

Alphonso accepted Christ at an early age attending Greater Solid Rock MBC under the pastorate of the Late Rev. A.L. Johnson and at the time of his death he was a member of Sheffield Family Life Center under the leadership of Pastor George Westlake III.

His hobbies included traveling, working on cars, riding motorcycles, watching and attending sporting events, spending time with family and friends and simply living his best life while making memories.

Alphonso leaves to cherish his memory: Daughter Ashley Finney-Nelson of Phoenix, Arizona; Siblings Maurice Nelson, Genevieve Nelson-Barns, LaDella Nelson-Riley, Anthony Nelson, Bridgette Nelson-Gates of Kansas City of Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be 10AM, with services to follow at 1030AM, Saturday, November 2, both at Sheffield Family Life Center, 5700 Winner Rd., Kansas City, MO; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
