Virginia “Gini” Newcomb

Virginia "Gini" Newcomb, 72, of Raytown, MO passed away peacefully on December 9, 2018. She was born to Byron D. Newcomb & Beatrice (Billingsley-Newcomb) Brown on August 9th, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. She was the loving mother of 3 children: Travis, Michael, & Aaron Willhoit. She is survived by her 4 grandchildren: Howie, Marley, Lincoln, & Reagan. Gini is also survived by her brother, Dr. David Newcomb DC of Raytown, MO; nieces & nephews: Shannon, David Jr, James, & Joseph Newcomb; and her aunts & uncles: Dr. Edwin Newcomb DC, Lee's Summit, MO; Joyce Post, Nevada, MO; Paul Newcomb, St. Thomas; Clara Frederickson, Seattle, WA. Gini will also be missed by her fiancé, Jon Miller.

Gini had attended the Kansas City Art Institute and received a BA in Studio Art with a Minor in Art History from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She was certified in MIA (Montessori Institute of America) since 1986 and MEPI (Montessori Educational Programs International) since 1995. She had served in the various positions of School Manager, Assistant Director, Director, and Lead Teacher - but her favorite position was in the classroom with the children. She was the author of “Art for the Montessori Classroom”, which is a complete set of art curriculum classroom guides. She had continued her active work with children and parents through her program, Roots & Wings Family Yoga. She was a certified YogaKids facilitator and conducted teacher workshops for integrating yoga into the classroom. Throughout her life, she was an artist of many of the visual arts including her favorite of Chinese art.

A "Celebration of Life" with family and friends will be held in her home on Saturday, January 12th at 2:00.
