Richard Allen Newport, 79, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away March 30, 2021 at St. Luke’s Plaza Hospital.
Dick was born April 3, 1941, in Independence, MO, the youngest of three sons of Noble Earl and Mary Lorene (Hubbard) Newport. Dick grew up in Independence, MO, and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1960.
Dick’s career with Kansas City Power and Light spanned 38 years. He was a member of Abundant Life Church in Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Kansas City, and Ararat Shrine Temple. At Ararat, Dick served as Captain of the Patrol unit, Potentate’s Aide, and was a member of the Order of Quetzalcoatl. He had a passion for golf since first hitting golf balls with his dad. Dick served as President of the Ararat Sandblasters, volunteered countless hours for the Potentate’s and Wings of Mercy Golf tournaments, and marshaled at the Fred Arbanas Golf Course at Longview Lake for 20 years.
Along with his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Noble; and grandson, Tyler. Dick leaves his wife, Carol; daughters, Susan Gorman and Dana Gicinto (Chuck); stepson, Brian Gregg; step daughter, Jodi Riddle (Tim); five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; brother, Douglas Newport (Marcia); sister-in-law, Deloma Newport; nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a service celebrating Dick’s life at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, April 7, at the Abundant Life Church Administration Building, 414 SW Persels Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Independence, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ararat Shrine Cornerstone Fund, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129, or to Abundant Life Church (address above).
