Nolan Reid King, 83, of Pleasant Valley, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Nolan was born on May 25, 1940 in Grundy County, Missouri to Alfred Lee and Sarah Edith (Fitzpatrick) King. He grew up on the family farm near Galt, Missouri where he went to grade school before moving in 1952 to North Kansas City, Missouri where he attended Maple Woods Elementary and graduated from North Kansas City High School. On June 1, 1962, he married the love of his life, Nancy Kathryn Hatcher at 2nd Baptist Church in Liberty, Missouri. Together they raised five children: Diana, Daniel, Laurie, Jonathan, and Sarah Ann. Nolan proudly worked for Ford Motor Company in Claycomo and retired after 39 years of service. As a citizen of Pleasant Valley, he held many significant roles, a reserve police sergeant for 2 years, the street commissioner for 5 years, a 2 term City Alderman for 4 years, and was most proud as being a fireman for 34 years from 1967-2001 where he retired as the Pleasant Valley Fire Chief.
When Nolan wasn’t busy working, he could be found out fishing, tinkering, fixing anything that was broken, working on cars, or building a new project. He was always a country boy at heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone and everyone in need. He truly loved his service to others and the community. But he loved most, his family and dogs, Waldo and Rudy.
Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Edith King; wife, Nancy King; granddaughter, Katie Reed; and sister, Marlene Barnett. He is survived by his children, Diana Ferry (Alan), Daniel King (Kari), Laurie Karnes (Robert), Jonathan Reed (Sarah Beth), and Sarah Ann Engle (Jared); grandchildren, Halle Hunt (Brian), Harrison Hewitt, Petty Officer 3rd Class USN Reid King, Emily King-O’Donnell (Brady), Kathryn Engle, Hudson Engle, Adelyn Reed and Amelia Reed; siblings, Eddie King (Merle), Nadine King, Myron King (Joyce), Zoella Hott, Jewel Schlotterer, and David King; many nieces and nephews; and his best companion and dog, Waldo.
