Dawna Theresa (Jackson) O’Donohue, 54, was born in Wichita, KS, January 1, 1965, and grew up in the Kansas City, MO, area. Dawna passed away on December 18, 2019, in Belton, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven O’Donohue, and father, David C. Jackson. She is survived by her daughters, Amanda Hand and Sarah Jackson; son-in-law, TJ Hand; mother, Susan Nawaz, and step-father, Khalid Nawaz; sisters, Debbie Jackson Tucci and Denise Cummings; 5 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Dawna graduated from Belton High School in 1983 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO, in 1988. She and her husband owned an entertainment business providing costumed characters for parties and events. She was a member of South Haven Baptist Church in Belton, MO, and loved to praise God by singing in the church choir.
Dawna was a very loving and empathetic person who could pick up on the sorrow of others and always wanted to help people and animals. She suffered with many chronic health issues throughout her lifetime, but her motto was “Today is the first day of the rest of my life” and she continually worked at overcoming her challenges. Dawna loved the Lord and is singing praises to him now in heaven, rejoined with her beloved husband, Steve.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at 11:00am at South Haven Baptist Church, 16800 Bel-Ray Boulevard, Belton, MO, 64012. A graveside service will follow at 2:30pm at Park Lawn Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., KCMO.
The family encourages donations to the following organizations in lieu of flowers: The American Diabetes Association; HELP Humane Animal Shelter in Belton, MO; and a 501(c)3 organization created to help restore a statue built by her father, known as Maxie – The World’s Largest Goose in Sumner, MO.
