Richard Dow Owensby

February 14, 1949 — October 24, 2020

Richard D. Owensby, 71, passed away on the afternoon of Saturday October 24 surrounded by his daughters and wife Sharon Sue Owensby. He battled brain cancer for over 3 years before peacefully falling asleep.

He was born on Valentine’s Day in 1949 in Kansas City MO, the son of E.D. and Elaine Owensby. Richard served in the US National Guard from 1971 - 1975.

Richard is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon and five daughters and (sons-in-law) Victoria (and Matthew) Pyle, Jacqueline Owensby (Neil Davis), Melissa (and Bobby) Hoover, Christina (and Austin) Patterson, and Teresa (and Daniel) Worthington. Along with his six grandchildren Skylar, Wesley, Izabell, Colton Hoover and Jace & Baylor Patterson. He is also remembered by his four brothers and two sisters and their spouses and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Richard loved spending time with family; teasing his daughters, nieces, and nephews, playing with his grandkids and retelling favorite family stories. He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend. Many laughs and stories were shared over breakfast at Burger King or brunch at Caleb’s. He enjoyed running the sound system and helping around the church. If you needed a hand or help fixing things Richard was there for others.

Richard also enjoyed spending time in his garden and every year had an abundance of tomatoes. There were tomatoes for everyone. He started each day with his morning crossword and a cup of coffee.

Richard’s visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM on Friday October 30, 2020 at St. Pauls Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City MO.
