Richard E. Parker

September 9, 1947 — May 18, 2019

Richard E. Parker, 71, of Lee’s Summit, MO went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Richard Parker and Margaret Mae Mack. Rich grew up in Shawnee, Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School. His lifelong goal was to be a teacher. He got his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas. He later received a Master’s Degree and an additional 32 hours from Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Rich started his teaching career at St. Agnes in Roeland Park, Kansas. From there he went to Grandview, Missouri and taught 28 years at Meadowmere Elementary and Butcher-Greene Elementary. He retired from Grandview and taught 5 years at Blue Ridge Christian School and then subbed at Summit Christian Academy. Rich’s first love was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He attended Blue Ridge Bible Church (now Word of Grace Fellowship) for over 40 years. He truly displayed the Joy of the Lord and always had a smile on his face, and a word of encouragement for everyone he met.

His second love was his family, which is what his world revolved around. He loved his children and his grandchildren immensely. When any occasion was planned, he wanted everyone there no matter what.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Susie Curry, Penny Benton and Kim Davis. He is survived by his wife Beverly; son Adam and his wife Fran; their children: Taylor, Cooper, and Aidan; daughter Emily Doss and her husband Josh; their children: Ruby and Rosie; daughter: Megan Richards and husband Ben; and their children: Bo, Lucy, Macy, and Nolan; and sister Cindy Conklin.

Richard chose to be cremated.  A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Word of Grace Fellowship in Raytown, Missouri on Friday, May 31st.
