Perry, Darthard

September 4, 1949 — February 2, 2022

Darthard Edward Maurice Perry (The Gentle Giant) was born September 04, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the second child born to the union of Floyd and Geraldine Perry.

Darthard attended Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri where he earned the nickname the “Gentle Giant”.  He was one year away from receiving his High School diploma when he enlisted in the Army on November 18, 1966 to serve his country during the Vietnam war.  He served one tour in the Army and was Honorably discharged on March 17th, 1969.

Once he finished his service to the Country, Darthard remained true to the family’s core values of service, respect, and education. He went back to school and earned his General Educational Development (GED) certificate and then went on to further his education attending both Sacramento City College and then Sacramento State College. While in school he found a passion in acting and decided to study drama.  The Gentle Giant focused his energy and efforts while in college participating in many of the school’s drama and theater productions.

After going to school, enjoying the beaches, and the California sun he met and married Toni Colley. To this union they had a son Austin Maurice Perry in 1994.  Darthard was also blessed to gain three stepdaughters through this union - Jasmine, Aishah, and Mazuri Colley.

Darthard was a loving husband and father. He loved participating in family events and cooking meals for everyone. He made a career out of the restaurant and hospitality industry working as a restaurant manager for several restaurants in and around the Sacramento area until he relocated and returned home to Kansas City.

Darthard was preceded in death by his parents, oldest brother Floyd Perry Jr., and sister Robin Greathouse.  He leaves behind to mourn his passing two sons:  Maurice Perry of Sacramento, CA; Austin Perry of Sacramento CA; three stepdaughters Jasimine, Aishah, and Mazuri Colley of Sacramento, CA.; Brothers: Cornell I. Perry (Jacqueline) of Lee's Summit, MO; and Wayne J. Perry of Blue Springs, MO; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
