Wiley J. Pettus

Reverend Wiley J. Pettus was born on November 13, 1923 in Muldrow, Oklahoma to the late Moses Pettus and Vannetta McClendon-McKinney. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Dorothy Pettus, parents: Moses Pettus and Vannetta McClendon-McKinney, siblings: Mary Carter, Eugene Pettus and Billie Pettus, son-in- law: Johnny C. Tillman, step-daughters: Willie Louise O’Riley and Theresa Reed, grand-daughter: Melody Mitchell, step grand-daughter: Joakima Morgan.

Reverend Pettus served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 – 1945 and re-enlisted for another year and received an honorable discharge as Private First Class in 1946. We indeed THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! He retired from Chrysler Motor Plant in Detroit, Michigan and Trailways Bus Company in Kansas City, Missouri.

He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and became an Ordained Minister in 1957 at Greater St. James Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. He ministered to many churches throughout Detroit also under the leadership of the late Reverend C. L. Franklin (Father of Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin). He was a pastor at several churches which included Mt. Hebrew Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Edwardsville, KS, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri and Founder/Pastor of Bibleway Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri where his health and age forced him to retire. He then became an associate minister at True Love Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Emanuel Rambo.

On December 15, 2020 his mortal body slipped away and his soul found eternal rest and peace with God. Reverend Pettus TAKE YOUR REST because you’ve done what God told you to do!

He leaves to cherish his memory 2 daughters, Mary Tillman of Clarksville, TN, Darcell (Darrell) White of Grandview, MO, 9 step-children, Kimmieko Jiles of Grandview, MO, Katie Luckett of Nashville, TN, Doris Dunbar of Lima, OH, Samuel (Lynn) Luckett of Fort Wayne, IN, Emanuel (Rosie) Luckett of Lima, OH, Vanessa Luckett of Nashville, TN, Dennis Luckett of Lima, OH, Denise Luckett of Atlanta, GA, Jacqueline Hudson of Lee’s Summit, MO, 9 grand-children, 35 step grand-children and of host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation 10AM, service 11AM, Wednesday, December 23 at Blue Hills Church of the Nazarene, 10306 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO; burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.
