Philip Charles Schlotterer Jr., 80, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at North Care Hospice in North Kansas City, Missouri. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 N. State Route 291, Liberty, MO 64068. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials and contributions are suggested to SendRelief.com.
Philip was born on October 6, 1942 in Garrett, Indiana to Philip Charles and Mary Patricia (Cody) Schlotterer. He grew up in Gunnison, Colorado and graduated from Gunnison High School in 1960. He attended Gunnison State College for two years and graduated from William Jewell College in 1970. On August 7, 1966, he was united in marriage to Jewel Reave King at Winwood Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Together they had two sons, Philip and Joel. He worked for Norfolk and Western Railroad, sales and marketing, and retired in 2004 as a paraprofessional for students with disabilities at Newmark Middle School with the North Kansas City School District.
Phil and Jewel were members and attended Liberty Baptist Church and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher hosted a home Bible study for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and built furniture. He also frequented the Senior Center at the Community Center in Liberty. He enjoyed playing cards and especially loved golfing, hunting rabbits, and fishing with his sons when they were growing up.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Troas Long and her husband Joe. He is survived by his wife, Jewel Schlotterer ; sons, Philip Schlotterer III and his wife Amy, and Joel Schlotterer and his wife Desiree; grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Katy, Edison, Hugo, and Ruby; brother, James Schlotterer and his wife Diana; sister, Roseann Crager and her husband Jerry; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
