Ila Mae Powell, 93, passed away August 21, 2021. Ila Mae was born August 28, 1927 in to Sam R. Harris and Sare S. (Smith) Harris. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri when she turned 18. Ila Mae started secretarial school and worked for H. D. Lee Jeans, Black and Veatch the IRS and the Department of Agriculture. She also sold Avon Cosmetics for 40 years and was a member of the President’s Club. Ila Mae married George Powell on July 16, 1948. Together, they moved to Raytown, Missouri to raise their family. She was in the Eastern Star, was the Director of Music for Job’s Daughters Bethlehem Number Seven. She taught elementary age children Sunday school, taught adult Bible study and was a member of First Baptist Church of Raytown (Connection Point) since 1957. Ila Mae was a member of Royal Ridge Chapter of ABWA where she held many offices including President and Woman of the Year. She taught piano lessons for many years.

Ila Mae enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking and shopping.

Ila Mae was preceded in death by her parents and her husband George Powell. Survivors include her daughter Marilyn Egelston; daughter Nancy Arnell and her husband Robert; daughter Terri Seyl and her husband Craig; grandchildren: Jennifer Giese, Jeremy Arnell, Marcy Hughey, Scott Seyl and Debbie Olson; great grandchildren: Noah Giese, Benjamin Giese, Whitney Egelston, Aliyah Hughey, Emerson Seyl and Brody Seyl.

Visitation will be 9:30AM, with services to follow at 10:30AM, Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
