Joshua Gene Rader Powell was born on September 10, 1992 at Smithville Hospital to proud parents Daryl Robert Powell and Sharon Rader Powell. Joshua was baptized at birth at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Cameron, Missouri and chose to be baptized again as an adolescent when joining the First Christian Church in Lathrop, Missouri. Joshua grew up on the family farm outside of Lathrop, Missouri attending Lathrop School districts as part of the Lathrop 2011 graduating class. After high school Josh attended Northwest Missouri State University for a semester before deciding to forego college and join the workforce. He followed his father's footsteps choosing to work in the automotive industry. Josh had a passion for cars, music, writing, and wildlife. He enjoyed working with his hands, restoring furniture and maintaining the family property. Joshua had recently moved to Pleasant Valley, Missouri with his partner Shengze Cao to begin a new chapter in his life. Joshua passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
Joshua is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Nadine Rader of Marshfield, Missouri, Dick and Frances Powell of Lathrop, Missouri, and surrogate grandmother Betty Mae Momyer. Joshua leaves behind his parents Daryl and Sharon Powell; his brother Justin Robert Momyer Powell; and half-sister Andrea Lyn Powell; and his partner Sheng. He also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins and many lifelong friends.
Visitation will begin at 7:00 pm, followed by a celebration service at 8:00 pm, on Wednesday, November 17, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 North State Route 291, Liberty, MO 64048.
Remembering Joshua’s love of sharks, in lieu of flowers the family suggests donations payable to Park Lawn Northland Chapel, which will then be given by the family to Oceana (for ocean conservation/oceana.org). Memorials may be mailed to the funeral home at the above address or left at the service.
