ROBERT “BOB” BRYAN RAVENSCROFT

Robert “Bob” Bryan Ravenscroft, 64, of Gladstone, born April 28, 1955, passed away May 15, 2019.  Visitation: 6-8pm Monday, May 20 at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, across from Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, MO.  Funeral services: 1pm, Tuesday, May 21 at Liberty Church of Christ.  In Lieu of flowers, donations may be given to American Lung Association and/or American Cancer Society.

Bob was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Dr. and Mrs. William B. (Mary L.) Ravenscroft III.  Bob had 3 brothers; William IV (Billy) deceased, Brett and Ryan Ravenscroft; and one sister, Melody Costello.

Bob graduated in 1973 from Raytown South High School.  He attended Longview Community College where he excelled in academics and Track and Field for which he competed on a State level.  He loved math, history, music, reading and enjoyed a good debate.  Bob was a certified scuba diver, loved animals, horseback riding, and was an avid outdoorsman, sportsman and enjoyed analyzing just about everything.  Bob loved a thoughtful discussion on almost any topic.  He and his siblings were taught to look at all sides, and consider all angles before forming and expressing opinions.  He was extremely intelligent, and due to his high IQ, he was accepted as a member of Mensa.  Bob had a great sense of humor, a compassion for others and was an advocate for fairness.

On March 30, 1991, Bob married Sherry Hoffine in Gladstone, MO and recently celebrated their 28th anniversary.  They had two sons, Joshua Bryan and Jared Butler.  They enjoyed fishing together but he had to take the fish off the hook, horses, traveling, going to dinner, history, music, going to Aunt Carol’s farm with family, shooting and just dreaming of the things they planned to do.  Sherry even taught him the “10 step” in their early life together.

Bob’s love of history caused him to become a Civil War reenactor, which is how he and Sherry met.  They were members of Shelby’s 5th Missouri Reenactment Group.  Bob and his horse Katie were in the Calvary and recreated historically accurate Civil War battles throughout the Midwest.  In 1990, the group was recruited to do a TV Miniseries “Sun of the Morning Star” about Custer at the battle of Little Big Horn.  He was also an original cast member of the Jessie James play at the James farm in Kearney, MO.  Bob loved the stage, all genre of movies, and even watched chick flicks now and then with his wife.  He loved the outdoors whether it was a country mile or the ocean.

Bob's greatest joys came from time spent with his boys and seeing them succeed in their endeavors.  He loved hunting, fishing and shooting with Jared, and Josh loved watching westerns and Star Trek with Dad and talking about his horseback riding.  He loved getting together with family whether it was a game of Pinochle or simply visiting and dinner.  There were really no “in-laws” on either side.  In fact, Bob and Sherry had many “adopted” family members they considered their own.

Bob worked several different careers in his lifetime.  He did armed security, construction and concrete, and for the last 18 years was a Wal-Mart associate in Gladstone, MO.  He started there because it was close to home in order to be there for Josh’s schedule.  He worked in almost every department and enjoyed engaging with coworkers and customers.  He made a lot of friends, was respected and was always relied upon to be a team player and gave 100%.

Bob also had many aunts, uncles and cousins that he loved very much.  Cousins Clay and Jeff were like brothers.

Bob is preceded in death by his father, William B. III, and brother, Billy.  He is survived by his wife, Sherry; sons, Joshua and Jared; mother, Mary; siblings, Melody (Jeff) Costello, Brett and Ryan Ravenscoft; father-in-law, Harold Hoffine (mother-in-law, Mary Hayden Hoffine deceased); sisters-in-law and husbands: Terry (Dennis) Chrisco, Cindy (Randy) Herzog, and Wendy (Steve) Huddleston; nieces and nephews, Joe and Emma Costello; Anna, Jake and Cody Ravenscroft; Zoe Ravenscroft; Amy Kendrick, Adam Herzog, Ashley Gilinski, Abby Shedd, Bethany Annuschat; Justin and Kyle Huddleston and 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
