Ronald Edwin Remley, 68, of Kearney, MO, passed peacefully on September 8, 2021, at Liberty Hospital with loved ones at his side.
Ron was born February 19, 1953, in Moberly, MO, the second of four children of Albert Clyde and Alma Mae (Chapple) Remley. His parents preceded him in death.
Ron grew up in Centralia, MO, where he was a three-sport athlete in high school. He went on to play football at Butler County Junior College in El Dorado, KS and at Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville MO. At Northeast, Ron received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education for Industrial Arts and Physical Education.
On July 31, 1976, Ron was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Janet Lynn Mattson, and they are blessed with two children and four grandchildren.
Ron and Jan moved to Liberty, MO after college graduation to pursue teaching. Ron taught Woodworking and coached at Liberty High School from 1976 to 1981.
Following teaching, Ron began his 40-year career in the construction business, first working as a Construction Superintendent and eventually establishing his own business, Ron Remley Construction. He worked up until the Friday before he died, and even from his hospital bed.
Ron coached his son Shane's many youth baseball teams. He also cheered Shane's and his daughter Megan's many high school and college games. Ron refereed high school and college basketball for over 30 years and high school football for almost 40 years. He loved those Friday night lights and his crew!
As Shane and Megan became coaches, you could find Ron on the sidelines at Shane's baseball games and Megan's volleyball matches, adopting their entire teams as his own. While he didn't always remember a name, he never forgot a player's number. Ron recently added attending his grandchildren's baseball and soccer games, swim meets, music concerts and dance recitals to his routine. He loved supporting his kids in all their special events. He was also an active member of Liberty Christian Church.
Ron leaves his wife of 45 years, Jan; two children and their families: son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Jennifer Remley and their children Ross and Rosalie; daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Kellen Laws and their children Kyler and Gracyn. He also leaves his siblings and their spouses: Rick and Liz Remley, Rhonda and Mitch Fletcher, and Ruth and Jeff Breedlove; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and countless friends, including the young lives he dedicated himself to while coaching, refereeing, or simply cheering on from the stands. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, followed by a service celebrating Ron's life at 11:00 am, on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Liberty Christian Church, 427 East Kansas Street, Liberty, MO. A reception for friends and family will follow the service on the church grounds. Casual dress is encouraged and masks are required in the church.
