Richard Wayne “Richie” Robinson, 78, a lifelong Liberty resident, passed peacefully at home in his sleep on June 15, 2023.
Richie was born February 1, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of George A. and Evelyn (Boggess) Robinson. He grew up in Liberty and graduated from Liberty High School in 1964. Following graduation, Richie served in the Army National Guard.
Richie joined his father in the family business, Liberty Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in the 1960’s and operated the company until 2018.
Richie was very active in his community. He was an Eagle Scout and Fire Builder in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge and former member of Ararat Shrine Temple. Richie was also a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and served as a volunteer firefighter in Liberty.
Richie’s passions included: go-karting since age 16, Scouting with his son Shaun, annual fishing trips to Canada for 40 years, and his famous hog roasts at the go-kart track in Liberty. For several years he owned and operated Richie’s Bar and Grill on the Liberty Square. But most of all, Richie loved his family and especially being with his grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Richie was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelley Robinson; a baby daughter, Kimberly Robinson; brother, Kenny Robertson; and sister, Patricia Robinson.
On July 20, 1985, Richie was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth (Harman) Howerton, in Liberty. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Mary; children, Shaun Robinson, Criss Thomas (Kendall), Chad Howerton (Jennifer), Janel Schick (Brian) and Nick Howerton; grandchildren, Andy, Kara, Claira, Lucy, Sarah, Emily, Watson, Azalea and Rylie; sister-in-law, Sharon Robertson; as well as other family members and countless friends.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, followed by a service celebrating Richie’s life at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, June 22, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO.
Remembering Richie’s love of animals, memorials are suggested instead of flowers to KC Pet Project (kcpetproject.org).
