Roger L. Martin, Sr. was born April 23, 1933, in Braymer MO, to James Clifford Martin and Eula Tuttle Martin. He is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Martin, son, Roger Martin, Jr., and two sisters, Betty Bird and Mona Potter.
Roger married Myrtle Morris, “the girl down the street,” on July 31, 1952. They shared 70 years of marriage together, before Myrtle passed away in 2023.
Roger also enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He was awarded with the Korean Service Metal. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
After the Navy, Roger went to work for Westinghouse of Kansas City in the Research and Development Department. His work life also included Ace Tool and Die, Bendix and at Dollin Tool, where he retired in 1995.
Roger could be found just about every weekend trout fishing and camping at Bennett Springs State Park. In fact, he designed and built three campers with the help of his two lifelong friends, Milfred and Jim Lewis. These three friends also enjoyed hunting at “The Lodge.”
Roger loved cars, new, old and restored ones. He loved looking at them and helping others purchase new cars. He truly enjoyed NASCAR, watching every race he could. In fact, he knew most of the drivers' names.
His other love, next to camping, fishing, cars and NASCAR, was country music. He loved him some Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash.
Roger departed this life on December 20, 2024. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: sons Ricky Martin (Annette) – Kansas City, MO; Kevin Martin (Alana) - Harrisonville, MO; daughter Dianna Martin Philpott (Dave) - Gladstone, MO; 8 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren & numerous nieces and nephews.
