Frederic “Fritz” D. Schuhmacher, 90, died peacefully at his home on January 31, 2020.
He was born on June 12, 1929 to Frederick and Edna (Detert) Schuhmacher.
Fritz was drafted into the Army in 1951. He was stationed in Germany, and had achieved the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge in January, 1953.
In August of 1953, he married the love of his life Natalie Hanson. After the wedding, they were transferred to San Francisco where they worked for Employers Insurance. From there, they relocated to Prairie Village, KS. They later moved to Overland Park and Fritz worked for Safeco Insurance and Kemper Insurance. In the 1970s, Fritz joined the Ed Theis agency as an independent agent. In 1972, Fritz and Natalie moved to Spring Hill, KS. In the mid-1970s, Fritz joined the Jack Saggart Insurance Agency. He later set up his own agency, Schuhmacher-Hanson Insurance, where he worked until his retirement.
Fritz had a very strong faith and belief in God. He was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS. At the church, he served in various roles and as church officers. He also became a Stephen Minister.
Fritz was also involved in civic organizations. He served as an officer of his Lions’s Club, Ruritan Club, and as a member of the Rural Fire Board.
For over 50 years, Fritz and Natalie were part of a bridge club with five other couples that met monthly for card playing and fun. He was also a member of the church bowling league. Family was a top priority for Fritz. He took an active role in his children and grandchildrens’ lives. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends and made trips to Wisconsin, Washington D.C., the eastern seaboard, Las Vegas, Colorado, Texas, and California to name a few. Fritz also enjoyed cheering on the Royals and the KC Chiefs. He wanted to watch the Superbowl game between the Chiefs and 49ers and we’re sure he was watching and cheering them on from heaven.
