Natalie J. Schuhmacher of Overland Park, Kansass passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at
Sunrise Senior Living of Overland Park at the age of 89 years. She was born on February 23,
1933 in Rosholt, Wisconsin to the late Hans and Cora (Knutsen) Hanson.
After high school, she worked for Employers Mutual Insurance as an underwriter. It was there
she met her future husband Frederic (Fritz) Schuhmacher. They were married on August 22,
1953 at Northland Lutheran Church in Iola, Wisconsin. Their jobs took them to San Francisco
for a couple years. From there, they were transferred to the Kansas City area where they lived for the rest of their lives. After leaving Employers, Natalie worked as a preschool teacher and tax examiner for the IRS. After these jobs, she started a career at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She worked as a unit clerk and then took on the position of Staffing Coordinator for all the nursing units in 1967. She worked in this job until her retirement in 1998.
Natalie had a very strong faith in God. She and Fritz were charter members of Bethany Lutheran Church. Natalie was very involved in LWML and she was a Stephen Minister for the church. Natalie and Fritz played in a monthly bridge club with other church members for over 50 years. Natalie was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She always said you only need a pinch of Norwegian to take you far in life. Natalie and her husband loved to travel with their family and friends. They made many trips to Wisconsin, Washington D.C., Colorado, Texas, Las Vegas, and California to name a few. Natalie went to England with one of her friends where she encountered the Queen. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Carrie (Joe) Gregar of Louisburg, KS, son Karl (Julie) Schuhmacher of St. Charles, MO, three grandsons, Thomas (Sarah) Gregar, Timothy Gregar, and Sam Schuhmacher, one granddaughter, Theresa (Brent) Perry and three great grandchildren, Adrianna Gregar, Kalen Gregar, and Cole Perry, one nephew, Wayne Olson and one niece Yolanda (James) Voigt. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fritz, and her sister and brother-in-law Anita and George Olson.
The family invites you to join them in a celebration of Natalie’s life on Saturday, June 18, at
10:00 am at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Louisburg, KS. A visitation will be held at 9
am before the service. Memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
