Kansas City, Missouri – Leland “Sonny” Sexton, 77, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away Saturday due to complications of a stroke sustained 13 years prior. While his family is endlessly grateful to Truman Lakewood for his care, they will forever remember his life before. From turning a fear of fire into volunteer firefighting to getting behind the wheel of a big rig when he couldn’t find a driver, no challenge was too big for Leland. He and his father turned their incredible work ethic into Sexton Metalcraft, Inc., he earned his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying on family trips, and there was no one who could find a better bargain (his kids may well be going through their stockpile of Lava soap for the rest of their lives). That was just one of many gifts he lavished upon his family. From 16th birthday sportscars to a full-size home arcade, Leland was a most extravagant and loving father… and he often got his children out of bed at 6:00 am to help at his factory so they wouldn’t get too spoiled by it. He is survived by those children: Melanie Fogel (Dave), Rachel Sexton-King (Brian), Leah Davila (Jamie), Leland (Shannon), Elizabeth and Jordan, 13 grandchildren, his sister Debbie (Louis) and brother Mark (Sherrie). A memorial service will be held at Park Lawn Funeral Home on June 22 at 1:00 pm.
