Homer Philip Eugene "Gene" Sheridan (T/Sgt USAF Retired), 89, passed away September 29, 2021 at home with loved ones at his side.
Gene was born July 14, 1932, in Kansas City, KS, one of four children of Homer Philip and Alice (Lawrence) Sheridan. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Duane Sheridan; and sister, Juanita George. He was united in marriage to Irene Louise Dessert on May 3, 1958.
Gene’s career in the US Air Force began in 1949, serving in Korea, Japan, France, Germany, Greenland, as well as numerous locations across the continental US, before retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 1969. He served his country honorably for two decades. Following retirement he worked various jobs before being recruited to work for Truman Medical Center East. He was in charge of the Bio-Med Department there for 17 years. He also had a passion for photography and operated Sheridan Photography for many years.
Gene held a duel membership at Pleasant Hill and Independence Masonic lodges. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Kansas City and Ararat Shrine Temple. At Ararat, Gene served in the Patrol Unit and as the Temple Photographer. He was a member of Longview Chapel Christian Church.
Gene leaves his wife of 63 years, Irene; sons, Glen Philip Sheridan (Lori) and Ricky Lee Sheridan; grandchildren, Tammy and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10AM, followed by a service celebrating Gene’s life at 11AM on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Park Lawn Chapel, Hillcrest Road at 83rd Street, Kansas City, MO 64138. Burial with military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ararat Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129.
