Sr. Hilary Simien

February 19, 1940 — January 21, 2021

Hilary Simien, Sr. was born February 19, 1940 in Opelousas, Louisiana to the late Francois Simien, Sr. and Mary Simien. He was the youngest of seven brothers. Three of whom preceded him in death were Joseph Simien, Sr., Francois "Frank" Simien, Jr, and Rufus Simien. Also preceding him in death were his stepmother, Melinda Simien, and his two wives, Enda J Simien and Emma Jean Brown-Simien.

Hilary spent his formative years in Opelousas, Louisiana where he was educated in both the Louisiana parochial and public schools. After graduating from high school in 1958, he worked a variety of odd jobs for six years before moving to Kansas City, Missouri.

Hilary arrived in Kansas City in the Spring of 1964. He rented a third-floor apartment from a couple who would later become his future in-laws. There he met Edna J. Davis. They dated and were married on October 9, 1965. To this union two children were born. This marriage lasted until the passing of Edna J Simien on September 16, 2000.

A few years later, Hilary met a widow named Emma Jean Brown. They were married in September 2009. This marriage lasted until the passing of Emma Jean Brown on September 21, 2010.

Hilary was employed by Ford Motor Company for 32 years before he retired. He was also a member of the local UAW 249. Hilary also attended Catholic Mass services at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception; Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Church, and Christ the King Catholic Church.

Hilary also enjoyed visiting and spending time with family and friends and listening to blues music. He was also a very talented singer and musician. Every once in a while, he would even perform on stage at local taverns by singing and playing bass guitar with family and friends who were also singers and musicians. He also enjoyed going to the movies and gambling at the local casinos. He was a nice, kind man with a good heart and a good sense of humor. He was also a caring, loving, dedicated, and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Hilary Simien, Sr. departed this life on January 21, 2021 at Timberlake Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Hilary Simien Jr. and Hilando Simien, both of Kansas City MO, three brothers, Hilton Simien, Sr. (Carolyn) of Kansas City, MO, Antoine Simien, Sr. of Lake Charles, LA, and Johnny Simien of Long Beach, CA; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family members and friends. He was known and loved by many. He will definitely be missed.

Funeral services will be 1PM, Friday, January 29 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd.; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
