Barbara L. Skivers

Barbara Louella Lang Skivers, age 83, passed away Monday, January 04, 2021 in Lexington, MO. She was born July 09, 1937 in Kansas City, MO, and was the last living child (of thirteen) of George Victor and Emma (Bowman) Lang. Barbara married William (Bill) Skivers on September 26, 1953. He preceded her in death on Feb 08, 2001. They had 6 children, (4 living, 2 deceased.) They lived around the Kansas City area and in Southeast Texas for most of their marriage. Barbara had a great sense of humor, and loved pulling pranks on family. She loved exploring in the woods, mushroom hunting, fishing, and gardening when she was able, and passed an appreciation of nature and history to her children and grandchildren. She also loved going to "The Boat" when she could, often winning just when she needed it most. A good cheeseburger and a beer was a favorite meal. Mom was happiest with a cup of good coffee or an ice cream in her hand, scratching a lottery ticket, or when she could see a "little one"- she loved babies and spoiling children. She was also very proud of her work with Hospice in the early 90's, helping families through their hardest days with love. Music was a constant in Mom's life, from childhood to the very end. An old radio played country music almost constantly in her kitchen, with her humming along, foot keeping time while she took care of her family. Familiar music became especially important in the last few years, always brightening her mood. Barbara was a wonderful Mom to her 4 children: Cindy (Joe) Perez of Lexington, MO, William "Rick" (Julia) Skivers of Odessa, MO, Julie Skivers of Kansas City MO Melissa (Rickey) Lamphere of Clinton, MO, and a beloved Grandma, Nana Banana, and MiMi to 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 13 great- great- grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1:30PM, Monday, January 11 at West Union Cemetery, Peculiar, MO.
