Ric was born April 6, 1956, in Elyria, Ohio, the younger of two children of Anthony Joseph and Selma (Naylor) Slanczka. He grew up in Elyria, Ohio and graduated from Elyria Catholic High School. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Akron. Ric was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Liz" Richardson on November 30, 1985, in Akron, and they were the blessed parents of three sons.

In 1997, Ric and his family moved to Liberty, MO where he helped design his family’s new home. His career included serving on the Akron City Council, work for Time Warner, his own business ConnecTech, Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative, North Kansas City Hospital and Jones Lang LaSalle. Recently, Ric was a Facility Manager in Riverside for CBRE.

Ric was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Kearney, MO. He was the proud father of three Eagle Scouts and an Honorary Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, 2015 President of Kansas City Area Healthcare Engineers, a skilled poker player, an avid camper, and a wonderful cook.

Ric's parents preceded him in death. He leaves his wife of 35 years, Liz; sons, Evan Slanczka (Sarah Payne), Ryan Slanczka (Amber) and Kelland Slanczka; granddaughter, Evelyn Mae Slanczka; sister, Denise Pizzuti, and other family members and friends.

Ric worked diligently to avoid COVID during the pandemic, so to honor his memory and limit risk to others, a private service will be held. When working and driving with his sons for his business, they would often listen to public radio programs. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the KCUR donation page in Ric’s name.
