James Edward Smith

James Edward Smith, 68, of Pleasant Valley, MO, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2020, at his home with family at his side. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Saturday, May 30, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Jim was born April 1, 1952, in Norborne, MO, the son of Lester and Delores (Jones) Smith. His parents preceded him in death.

He worked for Missouri Pacific, later Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers' Union. He was also a member of the Benton County Elks Lodge #2783 in Warsaw, MO.

Jim was united in marriage to his wife Nancy on July 17, 1982. They spent 20 years enjoying lake life at Truman Lake, where he built a home, loved fishing, hunting, boating, playing pool and darts, and having a few beers with friends and family.

Jim played the drums since childhood and played in several bands, including Show-Me Express with his sister and brother-in-law.

Along with Nancy, Jim leaves children, Kyle Witt, Shanna Reaves and Travis Smith (Hannah); grandchildren, Rian, Daniel, Devon, J.J., Shyla, Aidan, Ashtyn and Zeth; sister, Donna Brehm (Ted); brother, Daryl Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, including Nancy's mother Jeanne Little; and many friends.

Service Information:

Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Saturday, May 30, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
