Snyder, Marsha J.

September 7, 1941 — November 18, 2020

Marsha Jeanne (Arni) Snyder of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at Garden Terrace on Nov. 18, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Daughter of Marcella and Hugo Arni, Marsha spent most of her life helping others as a nurse at Children's Mercy Hospital, where she trained incoming nurses in the ICU. Born Sept. 7, 1941, in Kansas City, Marsha was an accomplished ballet dancer and the first student at the Betty Tillotson School of Dance; attended Southwest High School and was voted Homecoming Queen in 1957 before going to the University of Missouri. Marsha is survived by her brother Jerry Arni and her 2 children Valerie Asbell, Eric Snyder, son-in-law Steven Asbell, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Marsha received many accolades in her nursing career, obtaining her R.N. B.S.N. from Avila College in KC, where she graduated with honors despite the challenge of being a single mother. Marsha earned acknowledgment for instructing Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, for which she received the Hospital Employee of the Year Award in 1990 from the Kansas City Area Hospital Association. Marsha's dazzling smile always lit up the room. She was a second mother to many neighborhood kids. She found joy in gardening, fishing, traveling, and especially dance. She will be missed by her extensive network of family and friends who will all remember her for her positive outlook on life, magnetic personality, and beautiful soul. I was so sad when I realized I had no way to contact Mom's two best friends. She loved you guys so much, and I can't tell you how grateful I am that she had you guys . You gave her reason to laugh and enjoy what was a really trying time in her life. You great friends were a bright light in her heart. I love you both!     Valerie Asbell

On behalf of my wife and I, whom have known the family for our entire lives, we wanted to share our thoughts to the Snyder family and a one of a kind matriarch who will be missed but never forgotten. She was a huge influence in my younger years being a friend to Eric. I first met Marsha as my 3rd grade teacher at Westridge Elementary in South KC. She brought an out of place boy from Ohio in to a new place of extended family and comfort. She let us be boys, find our own ways but always with that "caution" to our ways! Life lessons were learned; she was always a teacher! I didn't really respect that at the time but as life progressed her words became more appreciated! My "second" mom Marsha was right, too. Funny how that works out! There are many influences in life, Marsha (mom) was one of them. Deanna and I send out our thoughts to my early best friend Eric, his family and all those who have been blessed to have known her. I hope these few simple words reflect how much she was appreciated in just one life that she touched. Sincerely, David and Deanna Miller
