On Wednesday, July 14th, 2021, Rich Solar passed away at the age of 74.
Rich was born on August 17, 1946 to Everett and Bernice Solar. He was married and had a daughter, Michelle and later married Leona Boeger on March 22, 1979 and together they had a son, Josh. Rich & Leona lived in Southern California until Josh was 9 when they relocated to Kansas City.
Rich loved his grandkids and when he was physically able, he never missed a sporting event or practice. He loved to watch them play soccer, baseball and softball. He was quite biased and always thought his grandkids were the best players on the field at any given point in time.
Rich loved his dogs, Ravin & Otis who are still keeping Leona company as well as Twinkie, Kobe, Bear, Pepper, Cinder and Brandy who preceded him in death. He had a special relationship with Josh’s puppy Luna, who would run into the house and leap into his lap upon arrival no matter where Papa was sitting when she came in.
In his youth, he was an accomplished baseball player, tennis player, fisherman, bowler and golfer. Rich loved all sports, but he especially loved the Lakers when Shaq & Kobe were playing during their Three-Peat championships and I’m pretty sure he never missed watching a Dodgers baseball game. His love of sports passed down to his son Josh and his wife Jenny, who spent many, many evenings watching games with him and trying to soothe him when he got angry when his team was losing.
Rich was preceded in death by his father Everett Solar, his brother-in-law Hugo Schmidt, his sister-in-law Shannon Antopol and his friend Pete Stewart. He is survived by his mother, Bernice Silberling; his wife, Leona and her sisters Ardine Scott (married to Bill Scott) and Marcia Hornig (married to Jerry Hornig); his daughter Michelle and her wife April; his son Josh, his wife Jenny and their three children, Max, Ava & Lia. He is also survived by his sisters Diana Schmidt & Marcia Koepke (married to Lutz Koepke), his siblings Dick Antopol, Julie Hirsch (married to Lonnie Hirsch) & Marcia Ellen Moskin (married to Jeff Moskin) and his siblings Terry Fierle (married to Mark Fierle) & Barbara. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he loved greatly. He is survived by lifelong friends Don & Linda Costello and Linda Stewart and their families.
