Soto, Alexander DeVann

October 7, 1998 — November 27, 2020

On Friday, November 27, 2020, Alex Soto, loving son, brother, dog dad and friend to many, passed away at the age of 22. He was survived by his father, Danny, mother, Tracy, sister, Olivia, brother, Salvador, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Alex was born on October 7, 1998 in North Kansas City, Missouri to Danny and Tracy Soto. He graduated from Liberty High School in 2017 and then attended barber college at Ea La Mar's Cosmetology & Barber College in Kansas City, Missouri. Alex was a practicing barber from the age of 15 as well as a Best Buy employee since the age of 17. He became a full-time, certified, auto tech installer in 2019.

Alex was a beautiful, loving, caring, and generous soul. He accomplished more in his short life than most people would accomplish in a life-time and his work ethic was second to none. Alex was passionate about his careers, his friends, and his family. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Soto was the life of the party and brought joy to all who were lucky to know and love him. May he rest in peace.

Visitation will be 2PM, with memorial services to follow at 3PM, Saturday, December 19 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Liberty, MO.

Alex and I attended Ea La Mars barber college together. Even though my time with him was short, I learned a lot from watching him. He was a craftsman in the barber world! The fact that his time here on earth was short, doesn't do him justice on the lasting impact he had on so many people. This is saddening and hurts my heart for him, for his family, for his friends and for barbers. I love you brother, may you rest in peace! Glory be to God almighty!

Soto Family, I can only imagine the pain and agony that you feel right now. I wish that I could take some of that pain away from you. Alex was such a light in everyone’s life. I remember meeting him in middle school and being in orchestra together. He was so talented in everything he did whether that be bass, sports, or his love for being a barber. He will be so dearly missed and I hope your family finds peace in the love and impact he had on so many lives.

I was deeply saddened when I heard the news about you Alex...we went to school together since 6th grade and you were such a kind soul, you made everyone laugh and smile all the time...fly high homie you had so much potential...another amazing soul gone too soon.

Although I didn’t know Alex long, I viewed him like a brother. Spending hours on the wrestling mat and going to matches, whether close or far, together tends to do that. It got to the point where we spent time together off the mat as well. A rarity for me. I didn’t spend a lot of time with most people outside of school. Alex was an exception. So to say he had impacted me a little was an understatement. Alex had affected me very much. He was truly a kind soul. He was a great wrestler, barber, friend, and most importantly a great man. My condolences go out to Mr and Mrs. Soto, Olivia, and Sal. Alex, where ever you are, I hope you are at peace. You will be missed. Love you brother.

Danny and family, my heart hurts for you. I know how much you loved Alex. I remember when you brought him to work one day. Such a sweet little boy. He kind of hid shyly behind your leg, until we offered him some candy. The shyness went away then! May God comfort you now. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

We worked together for four years at Best Buy and I’ll cherish the memories of fighting for customer service rights and all the good memories that happened at work. It’s hard knowing that when you were waving to me as you were leaving Best Buy that that would be the last time I would see you. You had so much potential and great things going for you and it’s sad to see the world lose such a wonderful person. I hope wherever you are that you are cutting hair and making inappropriate jokes, and most of all, happy.

Katie Chaney

When I heard this news I was devastated. Memories of us singing Beyoncé in the car, you picking me up for a late night drive and chicken nuggets, decorating my Xmas tree, and many summer nights all came to mind. I will forever have a place for you in my heart Alex. You were an amazing friend and person.

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Alex from working at Ford childcare center. I didn’t have him in my room but I did have his younger brother so I knew him through fun times at the childcare center. What a great family and commented family with wonderful children. You all are thought of all the time, may god and the angels be in your heart for ever and ever.
