Janet Ellen Swanson, 78, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family Friday, November 13, 2020 at 9:06 PM. With God by her side, Janet fought lung cancer for 4+ years with courage, faith and strength. Even though the battle was long and often hard, she always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone she met, on any given day. Services will be held Friday, November 20, 2020 at Grace Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, 850 SW 150 Highway, Lee’s Summit, Mo with visitation for family and friends at 10:00 AM followed by family only funeral services at 11:00 AM due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Janet was born November 19, 1941 in Kansas City, Mo., one of 7 children to Clyde and Mary Anne Dickey. She leaves behind sons, Bryan Foster, Kevin Foster (Kathi), Christin (Angie), 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, a step daughter, Angela Swanson and step grandchildren, many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; sisters, Judy Adams (David), Julie Kahmann, Maureen Horne (Joel) and brother Jerry Dickey (Jerolyn). She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, her soul mate and husband, Eric Swanson, son, Martin Foster, brothers Dennis Dickey, John Dickey, and beloved brother in law, Mike Kahmann.
Janet lived in the Kansas City area until 1986 when she moved to Port Allen, Louisiana with her husband, Eric. She leaves behind her very beloved family there as well. After Eric passed, she moved back to Lee’s Summit in July of 2000 to be near her kids where she lived out the rest of her life. Janet was a homemaker, sales office manager, office worker, entrepreneur, and an awesome Mom, Grandma, Sister and Friend. In her later years she attended Grace Baptist Church in Lee’s Summit growing her knowledge, faith and trust in her savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to Grace Baptist Church, Lee’s Summit in memory of Janet.
