Mildred M. Tanner

Mildred Martha Tanner, age 93, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at John Knox Village Hospice House.

Mildred was born in Sedan, Kansas on February 3, 1926 to the late William and Martha (Briggs) Smith. Mildred was a devoted teacher who later worked in retail after marrying Edwin Warren Tanner in November of 1951. She and Edwin were married for 42 years while having two daughters, Martha Ann and Wilma Jean. After her husband passed away at the age of 77, Mildred met Kenneth Melvin Shirk where they spent over 15 years together until his passing. Mildred lived the remainder of her life at The Addington Place in Lee’s Summit, MO where she lived a full life of simple pleasures chatting with friends and family.

Mildred was proceeded in death by her beloved parents, husband Edwin Tanner, daughter Martha Ann Kilby, second husband Kenneth Shirk, brothers and sisters Clyde Smith, Vryl Smith, and Mary Alice Hays.

She is survived by her Daughter Wilma Doelling & husband Leonard, Grandchildren Jon and Sara along with spouses Ashley Doelling and Justin Harrison, Great-Grandchildren Bode, Lula and Oliver, along with brother Raymond Smith.

The Visitation followed by funeral will be held at 9am on January 25, 2020 at Park Lawn Funeral Home in Kansas City, MO. Burial will immediately follow at Brooking Cemetery in Raytown, MO.

Visitation 9AM, service 10AM, Saturday, January 25 at Park Lawn, 8251 Hillcrest Rd.; burial in Brooking Cemetery.
