Terri Lynn Davis, age 68, passed from this life on December 21, 2024, at Kansas City Hospice House, surrounded by her loving husband and daughters. A strong and quiet warrior, Terri battled a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis since 2002, persevered through breast cancer in 2021 and bravely ended her fight against stage four metastatic ovarian cancer that was discovered in September 2024. Her tenacity and determination to defy medical odds will forever inspire her family.
Terri was a life-long resident of Liberty, Missouri, born at home to Glenn Edward Barnes and Eunice “Irene” Pearson on June 16, 1956. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1974 and briefly attended college in Columbia, Missouri. She married Harry Lee Boggess III in October 1977 with whom she had her two beloved daughters. After their divorce in 1991, Terri found love again and married Don Davis in August 2004.
She devoted nearly 23 years to her career at State Farm Insurance as a sales representative. While it was not her initial aspiration, the role afforded her the flexibility to focus on what mattered most — spending time with her daughters and, later in life, watching her grandchildren grow. In a heartwarming twist, the office mailman was none other than Don, her adored husband of 20 years. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared passions.
Terri and Don’s bond was steadfast and loyal. They enjoyed dining at local restaurants and traveling to destinations near or far. They attended women’s soccer games at William Jewell College to watch Terri’s youngest daughter. Terri never missed a home game and nearly made it to every away match with Don by her side. They spent busy days together caring for their grandchildren and peaceful evenings at home watching their favorite television shows.
She was a reserved and quiet soul who enjoyed the company of her family and pets. She had a great love of animals, particularly horses, but most especially her own cats and dogs. Taking her grandchildren to the Kansas City Zoo, where her daughter worked, was one of her favorite activities. She was proud of her green eyes and loved the French horn which she played in high school. An exercise enthusiast, Terri remained active for decades, attending classes at the North Kansas City YMCA since the 1990s.
Terri was meticulous and tidy, possessing great skill in organizing and decluttering her home despite a fondness for shopping. She enjoyed browsing local stores to “find things you didn’t know you needed” as she once remarked. Her sense of humor was subtle yet evident, even in her darkest moments she joked that she received “Superman’s blood” during a life-prolonging transfusion.
Above all, Terri’s greatest joy in life was being a grandma, affectionately known as “Honey” and “Gaga” to her granddaughters. She poured her heart in to every moment spent with them, serving as a caregiver, shuttle service and best friend. Her endless love and devotion will forever be carried in their hearts and remembered for the rest of their lives.
Terri is survived by her husband, Donald A. Davis; her daughters Britni L. Eggers (Karl) and Sydney R. Owen (Matt); her granddaughters Katherine “Wren” Eggers (9), Arie Owen (9), Callan Owen (5), and Josephine “Finn” Eggers (2), all of Liberty, MO; her brothers Dan S. Barnes of Emporia, KS, and Kevin R. Barnes (Terri) of Liberty, MO; nephews Matthew Barnes and Alex Richter (Arden); great-niece Hailey Barnes (15) of Kansas City, MO; stepdaughter Meagan Davis Spake (Derek) of Olathe, KS; stepson Tyler Davis (Tina) of Greenwood, MO; and step-grandchildren Henley Spake (12), Teagan Davis (10), and Sinclair Spake (10). She was preceded in death by her parents; her maternal aunt Constance ”Connie” Harris and her uncle, Robert R. “Cotton” Harris of Plattsburg, MO; and the father of her children, Harry Lee Boggess III of Liberty, MO.
A loving remembrance will be held in her honor on January 4, 2025 with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Northland Chapel located at 1640 N State Route 291, Liberty, MO 64068.
