Theo Delle Berry, 85, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away June 6, 2024, peacefully at home with her family. Visitation (10:00) and Funeral (11:00) will be held Wednesday, June 12 at Grace Episcopal Church, 520 S. 291 Highway, Liberty, Missouri.
Theo was born March 29, 1939, in Greeley, Colorado to Alex and Anna (Vassios) Jamison. She was married to Thomas Edward Berry August 2, 1959, in Greeley, Colorado.
Theo was raised in a family of immigrants who were proud to call themselves Greek Americans. Her family fostered in her a deep understanding of family bonds and the opportunity provided by education, which she was fond of demonstrating to her grandchildren and anyone who would listen. Her time as a young girl growing up in the family’s business, The Longs Peak Cafe, was very formative in her life. She learned about community, hard work, and kindness in the everyday life that was lived in that grocery and cafe. She loved to tell stories of the people that worked there, the regular customers, and her father’s diligence in the cafe’s operation.
She attended Colorado State University as a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. Colorado State was also where she met her future husband, Tom. They moved to Kansas City in 1960 and to Liberty in 1963.
She and her husband Tom, owned Metcalf South Accounting, an accounting and data processing company. Metcalf South Accounting was in operation for nearly 40 years, specializing in the accounting for shopping centers all across the country. She was a meticulous woman who scrutinized details either because of her business or that could have been what made her a successful accountant in the first place.
On many occasions she would share her gratitude for making the decision to step away from the accounting business to help watch her grandkids, Alex and Sami. Their bond grew over the years and experiences that they were able to share with each other. As she got older, she would reminisce on the decision, expressing how lucky she was to get that opportunity.
She loved propagating plants, especially Christmas Cactuses. She loved watching Antique Roadshow, Jeopardy, The Price is Right, and of course the Kansas City Chiefs with her family. She had a deep interest in the history of people’s families, especially the stories of their ancestors making their way in America. Her lunch bunch met on a regular basis to share a meal and companionship. For as long as many of us knew her, she was always reading a book. Even in her later years she would make regular trips to the library to check out another book on CD, which she listened to in her car (Ms. Pearl) or on a little boombox in her kitchen.
Many of us teased her that her favorite hobby of all was worrying. But in reality, she had a determined attitude for solving problems. It wasn’t uncommon to have a lengthy conversation that seemed to have resolved the issue. 10 minutes later on your drive home, Theo would call to discuss it further.
She was an active member at Grace Episcopal Church for 60 years where she volunteered in many roles including: the food pantry, backpack program, and doll making.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Berry; her daughter, Kathy Powell; and her brother Nick Jamison.
She is survived by her son, T.J. (Shelly) Berry of Kearney, MO; grandchildren, Alex (Nikki) Berry of Kearney, MO; Dr. Sami (Paul) Stokes of Kearney, MO; great-grandchildren, Rook Stokes and Penelope Berry; and a large extended family that all loved her as Yaya.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to Grace Episcopal Church in her name.
