Robert Morgan Thomas, Sr., MD, 88, passed away Wednesday April 21st, 2021, in Leawood, KS. Bob was born in Brazil, Indiana on October 20th, 1932 to Charles Thomas and Bertha Alice (Powell) Thomas. He graduated from Belleville Township High school in Belleville, Illinois, June of 1950 where he lettered in basketball and baseball. There he played on the Belleville American Legion state championship team in 1948 and 1949.

Bob continued his education and love for baseball at Depauw University, Greencastle, Indiana where he pledged Beta Theta Pi and lettered on the varsity baseball team his freshman year. He transferred to the University of Miami, receiving his Bachelor of Science in 1954. From 1954 to 1958 he served in the U.S. Coast Guard, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant before his honorable discharge in 1958. He served on the USCG Cutter Dione, stationed at Freeport, Texas then followed at District Command Headquarters in New Orleans. Bob returned to studies at Washington University, St. Louis where he completed his second degree, Bachelor of Arts in 1958 before entering medical school at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

On June 16, 1956 Bob married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Bonville in Belleville, Illinois at the First Presbyterian Church. In 1962, he received his Doctor of Medicine at Missouri, five years later completed his residency at Tampa General Hospital under Brown Farrior M.D. in Otorhinolaryngology. In 1967, Bob and Virginia moved their family to Columbia, Missouri to begin his private practice. Continuing his passion for restoring hearing, from 1968 to 1978 he taught at the University of Missouri school of Medicine Otolaryngology and later retired from his practice in 1999.

During his career in medicine, Bob became a member of the American College of Otorhinolaryngology, the American Board of Otorhinolaryngology, and the Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. He served as a delegate to the Missouri State Medical Association from 1978-1993 and President of the Boone County Medical Society from 1983-1984. Bob was a member of Phi Beta Pi Medical Fraternity, Boone County Medical Society, Missouri State Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, American Medical Association, Missouri Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and is a life member of the University of Missouri Alumni Association.

He served his country, he served his patients, provided for his family, and loved his friends.

Dr. Bob is predeceased by his daughter Pamela Thomas Maynard, parents Charles and Bertha Thomas, parents-in-law Kenneth and Sue Bonville. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia, brother Charles L. Thomas (Barbara), niece Jennifer Thomas, nephew, Charles Allen Thomas, brother-in-law William Bonville (Ginger Jordan), Oakland, CA, daughters, Susan Thomas-Dibden (Fraser Dibden), England, Celia Thomas, Leawood, KS, son Robert Morgan Thomas, Jr. (Kerry Dineen) Leawood, KS.

Living forever in the hearts of his beautiful grandchildren: Katie Maynard, Morgan Maynard, Louisa Grace Dibden, Hugh Ramsay Dibden, Olivia Ann Thomas, Robert Morgan Thomas III, and Brody Patrick Hamilton Thomas.
