James A. Thompson, 79, formerly of Raytown, MO passed away peacefully after a long illnesson July 24, 2018 in Bradenton, FL. He was born August 31, 1938 in Ludlow Falls, OH to George and Lois (Pfeiffer) Thompson.
Along with his parents, James was predeceased by his wife, Mary M. and three brothers, Terry, R. Jan and Joel Thompson.
James was a graduate of Sinclair Community College, Ohio and was a professional engineer working for several corporations throughout his career. As an avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed coaching youth baseball and brought smiles to many as a Shriners’ clown. The family has many fond memories of family reunions where everyone took turns stirring apple butter in the copper kettle.
James will be lovingly remembered by his children: Lt. Col (ret. USAF) Jeff Thompson (Juliann) of Auburndale, FL, Keith Thompson (Jolene) of Springfield, MO, Greg Thompson (Wendy) of Chapel Hill, NC,Lyn Townshend of Bridgeport, CT,Kimberly K. McCarthy (Mark) of Bradenton, FL and by grandchildren James A. (Tiffany) of Denver, CO; William M. of Orlando, FL, Christopher M. of Springfield, MO, Kyle M. of Littleton, CO, Candice T. of Charleston, SC, Amanda P. of Charlotte, NC, and Jacquelyn P. Hannan (Christopher) of Palmetto, FL, and by step-grandsons Michael McCarthy (Zamarie) of Arvada, CO and Dan McCarthy of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Joy (Bill) Sauder, Churubusco, IN,three sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 1 P.M. at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO. Service will follow at 2 P.M. with Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Thompson United States Air Force retired officiating. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of James to the National Kidney Foundation.
