She is survived by her daughter Julie Throne, son Anthony Lathrop (Adrianna Lathrop), close friend Ed Fitzgerald, and grandchildren Byron, Jane, and Taylor Lathrop.

Gloria had a wide variety of talents and interests. She went to high school in Columbus Indiana, later earning a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College and a master’s degree in education from Indiana University. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Elletsville Indiana and Lawrence Kansas.

As a college student, Gloria worked in the Saddle Barn at Brown County State Park in Indiana. An accomplished rider, she accumulated an impressive collection of ribbons and trophies in cutting horse competition.

She was a member of St James Parish in Liberty. She was an Oblate of St Benedict and well known at the abbey in Atchison Kansas. She also was a volunteer in the library at Mount St Scholastica also in Atchison. In recent years Gloria became an avid bridge player and made a new circle of bridge friends.

She was a producer and researcher at KANU radio focusing on folklore programming. She served in the Kansas State Arts Commission and participated in a variety of activities in the Native American community in Lawrence.

Gloria was part of my Hanover group. When we were Freshmen, we were on the same floor and we had many times of singing in our rooms, with Gloria leading and playing for us. She smart, talented and lovely- and always had caring for others which she obviously continued until her death. She will be missed.

It has been many years since I last spoke to Gloria. I always enjoyed our conversations and her quick wit and abundant knowledge. My condolences to Julie and the rest of the family.

We were so honored by Gloria's presence at the last couple of meetings of the Kansas Area Watershed Council, with her daughter making the considerable effort to bring her and contribute to the potluck to boot. Gloria has been a joyful presence in many of our lives over the years, often in times of trouble as well as fun. Her laughter in my mind will endure, and her music and impact on our lives will persist. Thank you for making our lives better, Gloria.

Gloria, I cherish the telephone conversations we had during the early days of the pandemic after we reconnected at the KC Symphony. Your friendliness and outgoing personality touched so many people, and I am lucky to be among them. My condolences to your family.

Dear Gloria, I truly miss our long conversations these past several months, each one beginning with what's up. I don't know what's up for you now but am certain it includes your lovely singing voice . Love to you my friend.

Joyce

Gloria, I really miss our daily conversations of these past several months. Don't know how to arrange my days at all. But I do know how you're spending yours, singing with your lovely voice accompanied by your stand up bass for all within earshot. Thank you for many things, especially that wonderful cup of coffee you brought to me during a difficult and trying time for me. Blessings. Joyce

I am so sorry that Gloria has left this world but know that she suffers no more. My deepest sympathy lies with her family and loved ones. She was a legend in the Lawrence music scene (and elsewhere), and freely shared that contagious love of music with many. She was also an excellent teacher, having met the challenge of teaching my crazy-curious son in second grade. She will be deeply missed by many.

Adieu, Gloria. Rick Desko and I were just reminiscing about all the things you did, that you've always done, to bring musicians together in Kansas. From Strawberry Hill to the last Kansas exit. You'll be missed.
