One cold winter’s day, Linda Susan was born to Jack and Jane (Corbett) Bartmess on February 15, 1955. She would grow to despise the cold, much preferring to be on a warm beach. Her touchstone place was Pawley’s Island, SC. She graduated from Center High School in 1973 and attended Baker University, where she was a member of Phi Mu fraternity. She married her husband, Mark Trokey, in November 1975. Kansas City was home until moving to Lee’s Summit in 1996. Linda stayed at home to raise their three children, and motherhood was her most cherished role. Linda was a longtime member of Holmeswood Baptist Church and served numerous roles including teaching children and serving as a deacon. In 1994, Mark Trokey’s Automotive was opened, and Linda played a major role in the development and management of their successful business. Linda’s first grandchild, Austin, was born in 2005. Linda savored her role as grandma, despite being in the middle of treatments for her recurrent breast cancer. Austin’s birth was followed by Aaron in 2008, granddaughter, Waverleigh in 2009, and Sawyer in 2015. Sawyer’s birth was a special time for Linda because his arrival was in the midst of her latest battle with appendiceal cancer. She was diagnosed in 2014, withstood and thrived after two major, life-changing surgeries and several rounds of chemotherapy. Linda was determined to live her life as a healthy person, and not someone struggling with cancer. She found great joy in reading, frequent travels to the beach, riding roller coasters, horseback riding, and spending time on her back porch, but most of all spending time with family and friends. Linda also found enjoyment mentoring young moms through MOPS at Lee’s Summit Community Church. She passed away peacefully (just in time to miss the unseasonable snowfall) on March 30, 2019 after a lengthy, brave battle with cancer.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Emma “Jane” (Corbett) Bartmess; father-in-law, Harold Trokey; sister, Cheryl (Bartmess) Westphal; and daughter, Katie Trokey. She is survived by her husband, Mark, of the home; father and beloved stepmother, Jack and Carol Bartmess; mother-in-law, Beverly (Mueller) Trokey; siblings John (Jill) Bartmess, Scott (Lorrie) Bartmess, brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Trokey and Harold Trokey Jr, and sister-in-law, Terri (Alan) Harman; children Tiffany (Jeremy) Verhulst, David (Shannon) Trokey; and grandchildren Austin, Aaron, Waverleigh, and Sawyer; stepbrothers Scott (Susan), Layne and Todd (Lesley) Riggs, and numerous nieces, nephews, loved relatives, and many special friends.
“Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end.”
