Ruth Elizabeth Strain Tucker died June 9, 2019. She was born in Plainfield, New Jersey to Walter and May Strain. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Bob Strain. She grew up in Plainfield and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1939 at age 17. She attended Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) for a year. When her parents moved to Evanston, Illinois, she attended National College of Education (now National-Louis University) graduating with a Bachelor's of Education in 1943. That same year, she married Rev. Dr. Frank C. Tucker, Jr. a United Methodist Minister.

During their 53-year marriage, Ruth assisted Frank in serving churches he pastored. This began in Elsberry, Missouri and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Frank served a church for English speaking Protestants for three years. The family returned to the United States in 1947 where Frank served a church in Westerly, Rhode Island while completing seminary at Yale University.

Upon his graduation, Frank was assigned to a church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Frank and Ruth later served churches in Springhill, Louisiana, and in Nevada, St. Louis, and St. Charles, Missouri. Ruth used her education credentials to teach Kindergarten and Elementary grades in several locations. They retired to Liberty, Missouri.

After they retired, Ruth and her husband volunteered at the Liberty Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth became the President of the organization. She was also active in Chapter IZ of PEO. At the Liberty United Methodist Church, she taught courses in adult religion and an adult Sunday School class.

Ruth is survived by three children, Frank C. Tucker III (Madeleine), Laurence R. Tucker (Sylvia) and Rev. Christine B. Tucker-Key, as well as six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She also survived by her sister-in-law, Elnora Tucker.

Mourning the loss of a truly amazing woman. So blessed to have been able to call her family. My prayers to Christine as you know I’m holding you close in my heart. Love you “mom”.

Ruth is a woman for all ages and times. She was and is a terrific example of what it means to live a full life with dignity, grace and strength. She was a wonderful friend to both Barb and myself. She was certainly a leader in our church and community. Persons such as Ruth are a light for us all.

Ruth was, is, and will always be one of my favorite people and my friend. She was always one of my best critics/advisors of my ministry. When she spoke, I listened. Ruth was one of my initial attendees when I started the worship services at Addington Place and for the next three and a half years, every Sunday, she hardly ever missed a worship service. I will miss her, but I know that she and Frank are back together! Thank you, Ruth, for everything!

I was blessed to serve as Associate Pastor with Dr. and Mrs. Frank Tucker in St. Charles, MO. Ruth and I shared the same birthday, April 16. Frank would treat us often with a birthday lunch. Ruth was indeed a remarkable woman, a Biblical scholar and teacher of adult Sunday School at First UMC. Ruth made me feel like part of her family. She was an inspiration, a true Disciple of Jesus Christ. I treasure our memories serving with Frank and Ruth. My prayers are with your family. Vangie Cannon

Ruth remains a warm memory from half life ago....She and Frank were warm, kind, and hospitable souls whose kindnesses, generosity, faith, and thoughtfulness were reflected in the children they raised and the communities they embraced. My condolences to Frank III, Larry, and Christine.
