Richard David Turner “Rick”, age 66, left this earth for a much better place to be with his Heavenly Father on December 3, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri.
His greatest accomplishment was his family. Rick lived for his family and always put them ahead of himself. He was a selfless, loving husband, father, and pawpaw. He never ever hesitated to lend a hand, offer advice, or just listen. Rick was full of kindness, joy and love. He was quick with a smile and hearty laugh, and seemingly had a dad joke or “rickyism” about any given topic. He adored his grandchildren and was quick to hand them a package of gummies and a bear hug every time he saw them.
He believed strongly in education, and that through education his children would have opportunities that he didn’t. You could see his face light up as he bragged about the accomplishments & fulfilled life of his children full of love, laughter, and his grandkids.
He was also a man of faith. He taught Sunday school for years, was a dedicated church deacon, and a music leader. More importantly than the positions he held at two congregations, he lived his faith and values every day. He ensured that his kids knew & loved God. Church was a time of fellowship and family unity.
Rick always told his kids, “if you’re going to do something, do it right.” Even at the end, when he was struggling to talk and breathe, he called his wife and all five of his adult kids to tell them how much he loved them.
Well Dad… we know you’re looking down on us right now, knowing that you did your life the right way.
Rick is survived by his wife Brenda; son and daughters (Christopher Hemingway-Turner, Andrea Hawk, Crystal Simonis, Melody Morales and Ashton Coonce); by his sons-in-law (David, Michael, Joshua, Sebastian, and Justin); by his small, loving army of 11 grandkids (Aiden, Aniah, Anniston, Brenden, Cheyenne, Ensley, Ethan, Gabriel, Hadley, Mackenzie and Mateo); and his sister Patricia "Trishy".
He was preceded by his father Casto Turner, his mother Dorothy, brothers Raymond and Doug, and sister Judy.
Rick will be laid to rest at Memorial Park/Park Lawn Cemetery on Friday, December 11 in a private family ceremony.
