Carolyn Sue (Simms) Underwood, 74, of the Kansas City Northland, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2019, at NorthCare Hospice House with loved ones at her side.

Carolyn was born May 4, 1945, in Carrollton, MO, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Adra Naomi (Mills) Simms. Her parents preceded her in death. She was a graduate of North Kansas City High School. Carolyn was united in marriage to William Larry Underwood in Northern Heights, MO on April 4, 1964. She worked in the cafeterias at North Kansas City High School and Topping Elementary, retiring as a manager after more than 30 years of service. The cafeteria at Topping is named after Carolyn.

Carolyn's family was everything to her. She leaves her husband of 55 years, Larry; children, Sherri Mordecai (Donnie) and Mike Underwood (Rhonda); grandsons, Clayton Mordecai, Brett "Chopper" Mordecai, Griffin Underwood and Gavin Underwood; siblings, Shirley Perry, William "Bill" Simms (Donna) and Theresa Mitchell (Charlie); numerous nephews and nieces, including Missy Madia (John), and Amy Cordle (Brian) and their daughter Jessica; as well as other family members and friends. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, September 22, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Remembering the wonderful care Carolyn received in her final days, the family suggests memorial contributions to NorthCare Hospice House, 2800 Clay Edwards Drive, North Kansas City, MO 64118.

A special thank you to Carolyn's sisters, Shirley and Theresa for the loving care they gave their sister during her illness. The family also gratefully acknowledges the staffs at North Kansas City Hospital and NorthCare Hospice House for their care and compassion.
