It is with great sadness that the family of Stephen "Steve" Untrif announce his passing on December 26, 2020 at the age of 83, following a valiant fight with cerebrovascular disease.

Steve will be remembered lovingly by Beverly, his wife of 60 years; his daughters, Ginger (Richard) Rhodes of Half Moon Bay, CA, Denise (Mark) Lynn of Lee's Summit, MO and Sheryl (Bill) Reigel of Blue Springs, MO; and his granddaughter, Brooke Lynn of Overland Park, KS. Survivors also include his sister, Sharon Jennings-Merrill of Kansas City, MO; brother, Michael Untrif of Florissant, CO; nephew, Dru Applequist of Kansas City, MO; nieces, Vicki Hylton and Susan Mulally, both of Platte City, MO; sister-in-law, Barbara Newman of Kansas City, MO; cousins, Ernie (Barbara) Adleman and Roger (Derinda) Adelman; as well as other family members and many friends.

Steve was born December 27, 1936, in Kansas City, MO. His parents, Harry S. Untrif   and Naomi (Greenberg) Rutlader preceded him in death. Steve joined the Army National Guard in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964. He was a Sergeant on the Kansas City, MO Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He also served as Chief of Police for Lake Winnebago, MO. Steve was a private pilot and flight instructor, and spent many years air traffic reporting for several local radio stations.

Steve became a member of the Masonic fraternity at Temple Gate Lodge, and transferred to Blue Springs Masonic Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master.   He was a life member and very active for many years at Ararat Shrine, where he flew countless children and their parents to Shrine hospitals in Galveston, TX, Cincinnati, OH and Chicago, IL. He served many Shrine organizations including Commander of the Flying Fez, member of the Oriental Band, and served on the Ararat Board of Directors.

Friends and family are welcome to attend visitation 10-11am, followed by a service celebrating Steve's life at 11:00 am, on Saturday, January 2, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty. The service will also be livestreamed. Burial with military honors will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Lumicare Hospice.
