Vernon Dorse Graham, 96, a longtime Liberty resident, joined his Lord and Savior on July 28, 2023, at Liberty Hospital with family at his side.
Vernon was born May 8, 1927, in Nimmons, Arkansas, the son of Melville and Ruth (Copeland) Graham. He was united in marriage to Opal Lowanda Sailor on July 30, 1945, and they were blessed with three children, Darrell, Sue and Dennis.
Vernon served in the US Navy during World War II, receiving honorable discharge as Seaman First Class on May 27, 1946. Vernon worked 20 years for the US Postal Service in Liberty as a letter carrier and clerk. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church for 55+ years and most recently a member of Nebo Baptist Church.
Along with his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Opal; granddaughter, Julie Tritten; and siblings, Paul Graham, Pauline Davis and George Graham.
Survivors include his children, Darrell Graham, Sue Donnell (Stanley) and Dennis Graham. He was Papa to grandchildren, Christopher Graham (Alli), Heather Graham, Malinda Brownfield, Jason Donnell, Julie’s husband Tom Tritten and great grandchildren, Graham, John, Bailey, Caseye and Caleigh. Vernon also leaves a sister, Mary True, as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a service celebrating Vernon’s life at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, August 2, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Burial with military honors will follow at Glenridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org).
