Virginia was born on July 20, 1940 in Roseland, NE to Albert and Louise Trausch. She graduated from Roseland High School in 1957. She was the Salutatorian of her class. She married the love of her life, Joseph Miller, on August 31, 1958. They met when he started working on her dad’s farm in high school. The Army moved them to Germany in 1963, but they were back in North Platte, NE in the fall of 1965 to begin their family.
Virginia was primarily a homemaker, raising four active children, but there is so much more to her story. Over the years she worked as a title clerk, a school cook, and even owned a quilt shop. She was a very talented seamstress. She taught 4-H sewing classes. She has made and quilted numerous quilts. She sewed all of the family wedding dresses and bridal party outfits. She loved music and sang her way through almost every song she heard. But it was her generous volunteer work that many will remember her for. Strongly devoted to her faith, she volunteered as the church secretary at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for many years. She played the organ at church. She baked thousands of cinnamon rolls each summer for the church concession stand at the Lincoln County Fair. She belonged to the Alter Society, and ran the church thrift store known as the Bargain Barn. She also ran the Birthright program in North Platte. Virginia never turned down a chance to help someone in need.
In 1986, Joe’s job with the Union Pacific moved them to Kansas City, which is where the immediate family is still located today.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Louise, and her siblings Mary Louise Trausch, Vivian Parr, and Madeline Hemberger. She is survived by her husband of 66 years Joseph Miller, children Maria Hover (Craig), Jon Miller (Lynnette), Amy Becker (Dan), and Alice Miller. Siblings include Carol Post (Steve) of Grand Island, NE and Norbert Trausch (Kathy) of Hastings, NE. Her eight grandchildren include Alex Miller, Allie Becker, Corey Becker, Cheyenne Poorman, JC Miller, Savannah Kirkland, Schuyler Miller, and Ethan Hover. She also has seven great grandchildren, Leah, Erielle, Jaxen, Lucy, Roman, Ryan, and Aaylee.
