Vito Anthony Colapietro, age 76, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on December 22, 2024. Born on August 26, 1948, in Hartford, Connecticut. Vito's journey through life was marked by a profound dedication to education and an unwavering love for his family.
Vito embarked on his academic pursuits at Windsor Locks High School in Connecticut, furthering his education at Saint Michael's College in Vermont, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Economics and the equivalent of a major in English Literature. He continued his studies at the University of Connecticut, obtaining a master's degree that would serve as a foundation for his professional career. He was, in fact, ABD (all but dissertation) for his PhD.
Vito was a beloved professor for over 30 years, dedicating his life to inspiring students at the collegiate level, culminating in his retirement from full-time teaching at William Jewell College. His contributions to academia extended beyond the classroom as he was also a contributing writer to textbooks, enriching the minds of many through his writing. Colleagues and students alike regarded Vito as a creative and engaging educator, known for his humor and artistic flair that set him apart from the conventional image of an Economics professor.
Vito's life was enriched with love and partnership. He married Cathy on Leap Day, February 29, 1992, in a beautiful ceremony that marked the beginning of a remarkable journey together as soulmates and best friends. Their bond was strong, and their shared adventures spanned various countries and all 50 states, creating a tapestry of experiences that will be fondly remembered by all who knew them.
He was passionate about reading and writing short stories. A talented cook, he delighted his family and friends with his love for traditional Italian cooking. He loved to play the drums as his father before him and his son after him. Known as Gippy and Grandpa P-Ocho, Vito had a unique bond with each grandchild. He spent quality time with them, engaged with their interests and was an proud spectator at their activities and impromptu holiday performances. He was an engaging and entertaining storyteller.
Vito is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy Colapietro; son Vito (Rosa) Colapietro; daughter Andrea (Kelcey) Boria; step-daughter Angela (Jeffrey) Gilsinn; step-son Douglas (Vanessa) Broermann; and cherished grandchildren: Ava, Sophia, Grace, Benjamin, Gabriella, and Giovanni. He also leaves behind his brothers Vincent (Josephine) Colapietro and Anthony (Alyce) Colapietro; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Vito was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Amelia Colapietro.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at St. Therese Catholic Church In Kansas City, Missoruri, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Vito will then be driven in procession to White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Gladstone, Missouri.
Vito Anthony Colapietro will be remembered not only for his academic contributions but also for his vibrant spirit and the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
