Stephen Michael “Mike” Walden, age 59, passed away September 12, 2018, after complications from a liver transplant. Beloved partner of Miguel Villegas for 13 years; loving brother of Connie (Ken) Bolliger and Terri (Mike) Abel; caring uncle of Michelle (Adam) Fyler, Trevor Bolliger, and Carly Bolliger, Kellie (Steve) Spears, Cole (Miranda) Abel, and Kaitlyn (Bobby) Abel; great-uncle of Mikayla, Azure, Gavyn, Alena, and Hadlee; and adored companion of Star, the dog. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Beverly Walden.
He approached life with enthusiasm, panache, enchantment, and mischievousness. He collected eccentric art objects, traveled extensively, loved great food, and was a generous host and terrific cook. He did everything bigger than life, including the eight-foot marble lions that flank the entry to his home.
Mike most recently worked as a project manager for CNA Insurance. Previously, he was an executive for Cargill in Chicago, New York, and London, traveling extensively and leading IT initiatives in the futures markets. He earned a Master’s degree in business from the University of Missouri—Kansas City.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held Saturday, September 22nd, visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m., memorial service at 2:00 pm, at Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral & Cremation Center, 6467-77 N. Northwest Hwy (one block north of Devon), Chicago, IL 60631. Interment will be in Kansas City, Missouri. Graveside committal will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at New Hope Cemetery, Liberty, MO.
