Mary Kathryn Hall was born in Webb City, AR, on Easter Sunday afternoon, April 20, 1919, to parents, Elijah Daniel and Emma Lois Hall. She was the youngest of three siblings; Homer and Lois Hall were her older brother and sister (both deceased).
She was a good student and loved school, especially Biology, and even received an A+ on a Biology notebook, which she loaned to a fellow student, then never saw it again! She walked one mile to and from school in all kinds of weather throughout her school years and graduated in June 1937. She enjoyed school dances and music; she played the piano for church services. She fell in love with John P. Walker (deceased), and they were married November 23, 1937. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to California to find work and lived with relatives. While in CA, she was expecting her first baby. She missed AR, and just before the baby’s birth, she and John had the opportunity to move back to AR to be closer to family.
Mary and John had three children, Barbara Ann, Johnny Lee, and James Michael “Mike” Walker (deceased). Mike was born when she was 36 years old and was such a special blessing. Mary and their children went to live with her parents while John was in the U.S. Navy from June 22, 1944 to January 10, 1946; after WWII, she moved with John and their children to Northeast Kansas City, MO, and bought a house on Lawndale Street. Mary was a wife, homemaker, and mother. She took care of her family and cooked three meals a day, cleaned house and did laundry and ironed. She always made delicious homemade cakes, pies, cookies, pudding and meals.
She began working at Montgomery Wards around 1950 for a few years and loved it! She later worked at JC Penney in the women’s dresses department. In May 1957, Mary moved with her family to the Suburbs and lived at 48th Terrace in Raytown, MO and lived there for 20 years. In November 1977, Mary moved again with her family to Blue Ridge and 57th Terrace in Raytown, MO and lived there for 33 years. In 2009, she voluntarily gave up driving and then in September 2010, after much thought, sold her home and moved once again to Hidden Lake Senior Apartments. This move was an adjustment for her, but she made up her mind to make the change and enjoyed the neighbors and friends she met there over her almost nine years of residency.
In April 2019, Mary celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends at her church home, Norfleet Baptist! She enjoyed her celebration and was the “Belle of the Ball!” On August 31, 2019, Mary went to be with Jesus in her eternal home to be reunited with her loved ones and friends that have gone on before her. Mary is survived by two children, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
