Ward Wesley Wheeler, 87, of Gainesville, GA, passed away on April 24, 2023. He was born on October 30, 1935, in Kansas City, Kansas to Ward and Kathleen Wheeler. Wes, was a loving family man who enjoyed sharing stories of the past.
After graduating Mt. Moriah High School, Wes proudly served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958. After his military service, He worked for Bendix (Allied Signal) in KCMO, he pursued a career as a radio engineer for WDAF Radio 61 Country and KY102 in KCMO. and later owned B&W Sports Center in Stockton, MO.
In his free time, Wes enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and his love for his Wife Barbara and his family.
Wes is preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Kathleen Wheeler, sisters Emma Florence Wheeler (child), Curley Harder, and Mary Taeger, and brothers Raymond Wheeler, William Wheeler, and Roy Wheeler, His Wife Barbara Wheeler as well as his son Steven Wesley Wheeler. He is survived by his sisters Louise (Chester) Mazza of Illinois and Freda Miller of Mt. Moriah, MO, his children Kenneth (Joan) Wheeler of Tunis, MO, Sheryl (Richard) Porter of Gainesville, GA, Sheri Wheeler, Lee Summit, MO, and stepsons Jeffrey Jones of NKCMO and Larry Jones of Clinton, MO. Wes also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and extended family.
A memorial service for Wes will be held at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 1 pm, with a graveside service immediately following in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
