Joe (Joseph) L. Weathers was born in Avalon Mississippi on February 7, 1936. His parents were the late Mable Miller and Marshall Weathers. He was educated in the Mississippi school system. Joe relocated to the Kansas City area and later Ozie McGee joined him. They were united in holy matrimony on July 25, 1955. Through this union 9 children were born. Throughout the years, Joe had various places of employment including Pepsi Cola and later retired from Swift Meat Packing Company.
At an early age in Mississippi, Joe accepted Christ into his life. Because of his strong belief in Christ and his love for God’s people, he accepted God’s call into the ministry under the Leadership of the Late Rev. C. L. Dixon as an ordained and licensed associate pastor at Starlight Baptist Church in Kansas City MO; he served several years as the associate pastor. He later accepted the invitation to Pastor the St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Ks; he served as pastor for several years. Later Joe returned to Starlight Baptist Church and served as an assistant pastor to Rev. William Rayford until Rev. Rayford resigned as pastor and in April 2010, Joe became the interim pastor until 2012 but because of his commitment to God’s will, he remained at Starlight Baptist; he loved the members of Starlight and they loved him.
Joe was a family man; he loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his 3 sons Aaron Weathers, Michael Weathers, Donald Weathers, and grandson Jerone Weathers, sisters and brothers.
