Joe (Joseph) L. Weathers was born in Avalon Mississippi on February 7, 1936. His parents were the late Mable Miller and Marshall Weathers. He was educated in the Mississippi school system. Joe relocated to the Kansas City area and later Ozie McGee joined him. They were united in holy matrimony on July 25, 1955. Through this union 9 children were born. Throughout the years, Joe had various places of employment including Pepsi Cola and later retired from Swift Meat Packing Company.

At an early age in Mississippi, Joe accepted Christ into his life. Because of his strong belief in Christ and his love for God’s people, he accepted God’s call into the ministry under the Leadership of the Late Rev. C. L. Dixon as an ordained and licensed associate pastor at Starlight Baptist Church in Kansas City MO; he served several years as the associate pastor. He later accepted the invitation to Pastor the St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Ks; he served as pastor for several years. Later Joe returned to Starlight Baptist Church and served as an assistant pastor to Rev. William Rayford until Rev. Rayford resigned as pastor and in April 2010, Joe became the interim pastor until 2012 but because of his commitment to God’s will, he remained at Starlight Baptist; he loved the members of Starlight and they loved him.

Joe was a family man; he loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his 3 sons Aaron Weathers, Michael Weathers, Donald Weathers, and grandson Jerone Weathers, sisters and brothers. He leaves to cherish him memory his wife Ozie, his children Gregory (Latroy) Weathers, Venetia Weathers , Jacqueline Watts, Carmen(Jerome) Dunnell, Ronald Weathers, Karen Weathers, and his special daughter in law Cynthia Weathers (who she called “Boss”) , a host of grand, greats and great-great grandchildren. His siblings Henry (Jean) Campbell, Shirley Jones, Dorothy Weathers, Brenda Palmer and Jessie Weathers.

To my aunt Ozie, my condolences and prayers. I will forever remember my uncle as the only man that could sing "Take me to the Water" and it sound so good. The image of him standing tall with his arms behind his back, delivering God's message will always remain in my mind. Love you forever and a day. (Toi)

To Mother Weathers and the entire Weathers family, you have our deepest condolences and prayers on the loss of Reverend Weathers. It was a joy to have him as our father figure while attending Starlight Missionary Baptist Church. We are grateful for his love of God, his leadership, and his teaching of God's Word. We will always remember your personal catch phrase...."God is good all the time and all the time God is good!" With love, The Blake Family
